Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP): Pay Attention to This!

Via media girl, I read about the various stealth strategies that states' are adopting to restrict (obstruct, really) women's access to legal abortions. These laws are called Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP), a strategy discussed in this 2001 MoJo article, "The Quiet War on Abortion."

First of all, there is a House bill (H.R. 748), which aims at restricting teens from circumventing state laws that make it hard for minors to access abortions
(which many Democrates have co-sponsored). The Supreme Court will be hearing Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood on Nov. 30th, which will consider whether or not transportation of minors across state lines to access an abortion will be consider criminal behavior.

What media girl emphasizes in her post is what has been on the mind of many pro-choice folks lately: why are Democrats siding with the pro-lifers? And, why would pro-choice folks want to support pro-life democrats? Media girl links to a fantastic blog entry by bayprarie, who keeps track of all the TRAP laws.

Here also is bayprarie's discussion of the Democrats who support H.R. 748 (with pictures and contact info!).
