Today is not only the 85th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, but in 1971 Rep. Bella Abzug designated it "Women's Equality Day."
So find time today to celebrate one of the great achievements of the women's movement.

UPDATE: See egalia's fine post at Tennessee Guerilla Women.
You are most graciously welcome. Now, let's drink a toast to great women!
ReplyDeleteI think we should meet somewhere in virtual land to do this!
ReplyDeleteIf you've never been up to Seneca Falls, NY to see where the Declaration of Sentiments was written and signed (down the street from Elizabeth Caty Stanton's home), it's worth the trip. It all under the authority of the Park Service, Women's Rights Nat'l Historic Park it is called. Very nicely done.
ReplyDeleteShe is my hero too! Stanton was the real philosopher between the two. :)

ReplyDeleteYes, she was the writer, but she would have been nowhere without Anthony. Stanton was kept busy with her many babies; Anthony used to gripe about all the feminists who were useless after they married. Thankfully she was a 'lucky spinster' or married to the cause.
Thanks for the link aspazia; it's a great picture of two of the many women (like Alice Paul) who deserve a far greater place in the history books than they have ever had.
